Miller's Blackberry Brandy

Chris with Brandy at 22 mos. old - after a day of snowshoe hare hunting

Born: May 13, 2002

Nice chop mouth.  Approx. 14-3/4”

Brandy is a daughter of Miller's Annie.

Brandy started at 4 months old and had 80 snowshoe hare shot over her before she was 6 months old. At 8 months old, in the middle of her first tough winter, she could circle her own hare/cottontail when many other dogs couldn't get enough scent to run. This is the sign of a gundog.

Brandy is built for running all day and has proven her ability in the field. She will be bred in the summer/fall of 2005, and we're hopeful that she'll pass on her ability to her pups as effectively as her mother Annie.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I consider Brandy...

(A 10 is virtually unheard of, and a darned good gundog is probably a 7)

  • Nose -- 8.5
  • Speed -- 8.5
  • Desire (grit, toughness) -- 10
  • Brains -- 7
  • Tractability (handling) -- 8
  • Conformation -- 9
  • Check-work -- 6

Brandy has matured into a very good rabbit dog. She doesn't have the patience that I like to see, but her desire and nose more than make up for it.

You can see various video clips of Brandy, at 4-1/2 months old, running hare to the gun here.
You can see a 5 minute online video of Brandy at 10 mos. old running a rabbit by herself here.
