Winter Challenge
Where can you make $250 hare hunting? Right
here in NH. ![]()
Here's
how it works:
Book a day (or longer) of hare hunting and bring a hound of your choice*:
If your hound(s) can run when ours can't (or get a significant amount more work done) and do it without exhibiting major faults, then here's what you get:
- A day's net pay (up to $150) from wherever you work - compensating you for your time.
- Travel expenses covered (up to $100 - receipts required).
- No charge for the hunt.
If your hound(s) don't get significantly more done than ours:
- You simply get charged for the standard guide service rates (minus a 10% discount just for taking part) and have a fun day(s) of hare hunting. You can't lose either way!
Why are we doing this? Because it's becoming increasingly difficult to find dogs that can handle tough conditions. We're always looking for better Beagles that are capable of running on snow in cold temperatures, and doing it without exhibiting faulty behavior. With this 'Winter Challenge' we're hoping to give folks with good Beagles an incentive to come hunting with us and show us their dogs. We want to be assured that we're breeding the absolute best gundogs that we can, and there's no shortcut to identifying protential breeding possibilities, other than hunting over them. We want to be sure we're breeding to the best 'tough condition' dogs in existence.
We'll
run the dogs one-on-one, two-on-two, or however else you'd like. It
will be completely confidential: it will not become public knowlege
from our end. If your dogs do a significantly better job,
feel free to brag all you want to publicly, but our lips are sealed.
Our goal isn't to pound our chest, we're simply doing this
in an attempt to uncover possible hounds that can get the job done
when others can't (i.e. cold temps on old snow), and do it without exhibiting faulty behavior. There are no ulterior
motives - we simply want to see as many quality hounds as possible
and want to breed in the direction of the absolute best that the
Beagle world has to offer.
As a condition to this offer, we do reserve the right to have full disclosure as to the breeding of your hound(s), and if mutually agreeable, possibly breeding to your hound(s) or acquiring a puppy from your hound's breeding, in the event that your hounds are considerably superior to the hounds we run and can get it done more often. We're hoping to uncover the best of the best -- dogs who can get the job done when other good dogs can't smell the track enough to run it -- dogs that you don't need to make excuses for.
The goal of future breedings is to eliminate dogs that don't have enough nose. Some were born running on tough days and others have had to learn. Either way they've got to be able to circle a rabbit all winter long. A dog who can run 95 out of 100 winter days is a super dog. Do you know of dogs that can run reasonably steady the other 5 days? That's what we're hoping to uncover. We're told that those dogs are everywhere, but we haven't seen many yet, and we've sure been looking. So, that brings us to the 'Winter Challenge' idea. If you've got the real deal, or know someone who does, please take advantage of this offer. We're more than happy to see your dog(s), and really hope that you show us superior dogs.
